A 27-year-old trader, Gaddafi Muhammed, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly receiving a stolen iPhone valued at N1 million.
Muhammed, a resident of Yarkasuwa, was charged with receiving stolen property but pleaded not guilty to the allegation.
According to the prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, the case was reported by the complainant, Mr. Victory Rumsokot, at the Galadima Police Station on April 27. She told the court that one Josiah Friday had allegedly stolen an iPhone 12 Pro Max belonging to the complainant.
Nwachukwu further alleged that Muhammed knowingly purchased the stolen device from Friday for just N20,000 without requesting a receipt, adding that the defendant failed to provide a credible explanation during police investigations.
She said the defendant also made a confessional statement to the police, and the act contravenes Section 317 of the Penal Code.
Chief Magistrate Hauwa Aboki granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum. The case was adjourned until July 17 for hearing.
