The Ondo State Police Command has arrested one Eze Amadi for allegedly killing a 28-year-old man, Ifeanyi Otu, in Kajola, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident to the Voice of the people (VOP) on Friday, saying investigations were ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing.
According to him, the suspect is already in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded. He also appealed to residents of Kajola to remain calm, assuring that justice would be served.
Residents of the community were thrown into mourning on Monday when news broke that Otu had been killed. It was alleged that Amadi tortured the victim to death before concealing his body in a water drum, intending to dispose of it at night.
Some community members reportedly caught the suspect while he was attempting to transport the corpse on a motorcycle.
Both the victim’s father, Mr. Michael Otu, and the suspect are said to reside in the same neighbourhood.
Speaking on the incident, Mr. Otu described his son’s death as devastating.
“I was at home when I received a call that my son’s body, wrapped with foam, had been found inside a water drum. When I got there, I saw him lying lifeless after the drum was cut open. I was also told the suspect was caught while trying to dispose of the body. Justice must be served,” he said.
A resident who spoke anonymously noted that no one could say what transpired between the suspect and the victim before the tragic incident.
