Man in Court for Alleged Theft of Cash, Valuables Worth N400,000

The Ogun State Police on Tuesday arraigned a 25-year-old man, Mayowa Adeyemi, before an Ota Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a bag containing ₦400,000 in cash and other valuables.

Adeyemi, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, and threatening life.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, the defendant and others currently at large committed the offences on December 23, 2024, at about 11:30 p.m. at No. 16 Ifelodun Street, Onipanu, Ota.

Adaraloye alleged that Adeyemi and his accomplices conspired to steal a bag containing ₦400,000 in cash, a POS machine, and an Infinix mobile phone—all valued at ₦475,000—belonging to the complainant, Comfort Onah.

The prosecutor further told the court that the defendant allegedly used a cutlass to threaten the complainant when she attempted to recover her belongings.

The offences, he noted, are in violation of Sections 86, 390, and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate O.O. Fadairo ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody, citing the risk of absconding if bail were granted. The case was adjourned to June 20 for further hearing.
