Ogun Court Jails Two Men for Stealing N250,000 Phone
An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State on Tuesday sentenced two men, Abdulazeez Junior (26) and Adebayo Afeez (25), to three months in prison for stealing a Samsung Android phone valued at N250,000.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate O.O. Fadairo gave the convicts an option of a N20,000 fine each. She stated that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The defendants, whose addresses were not disclosed, had initially pleaded not guilty to two counts of stealing and unlawful possession of hemp.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, the offence was committed on June 17 around 11:30 p.m. at Joju Bus Stop, Ota. He said the stolen phone belonged to one Ewe Enahoro and that Afeez knowingly received the phone from Junior.
Adaraloye added that suspected hemp was found in the convicts’ possession during their arrest.
The offences contravene Sections 427, 430(1), and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
