The Lagos State Building Control Agency on Wednesday reportedly locked up Ikeja Golf Course/Club and whisked away its manager.
However, the reported arrest of some of the staff could not be independently confirmed as at press time as LASBCA was yet to respond.
A source who spoke to The Eagle Online about the incident said: “LASBCA illegally locked up Ikeja Golf Course/ Club this morning, beating up staff, female Golfer and whisking away Manager and Accountants because the ball flew outside of the Course.”
Confirming the incident in a notice shared to its members, the Golf Course/Club said: “We regret to inform you that the club has been locked by the LASBCA today.
“They also arrested some of our staff, including the general manager.
“We believe that is in connection to the incidences of golf balls landing in their premise through Hole 7/16.
“It is also worthy to note that they recently informed us of an incident where a ball injured one of their staff.
“Due to this development, the club is currently inaccessible to all members because the gate is under lock.
“We understand this news may cause inconvenience and disappointment.
“We will keep you informed about any developments and work towards resolving the situation.”
Reacting to the development, another source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: “This is a most despotic behaviour by an agency of government.
“It should be escalated to every level – government, legal and media too.
“I recall that this same LASBCA had the governor’s name engraved boldly on the front of their building.
“Then they took the name off because it was a notoriety that the governor and his office rejected.”
As of press time, no official statement has been released by LASBCA to confirm or explain the reason for its alleged actions.
