The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has challenged claims by the Dangote Refinery that Nigeria is on the verge of achieving fuel sufficiency.
According to DAPPMAN, while the Dangote Refinery is a major step toward reducing dependence on fuel imports, the reality on the ground shows that the country still faces supply gaps. The group noted that logistics, distribution bottlenecks, and existing demand levels make it premature to declare the nation fuel-sufficient.
Dangote Refinery, which has been celebrated as a game-changer for Nigeria’s energy sector, recently stated that its output could meet most of the nation’s fuel needs. However, industry watchers argue that refining capacity alone does not automatically solve challenges such as pricing, transportation, and accessibility across all states.
