Nigerian gospel star Mercy Chinwo has ignited a firestorm by dragging social media critic VeryDarkMan (VDM) to court in a whopping ₦1.1 billion defamation lawsuit. The legal battle follows VDM’s scathing Instagram posts, where he accused Chinwo of allegedly withholding earnings from her performances and violating contractual agreements with her former record label, EeZee Concept.
Chinwo’s legal team has dismissed the allegations as false, malicious, and damaging, warning that the singer’s reputation is at stake. In response, they are demanding:
– ₦1 billion in general damages
– ₦100 million in punitive and aggravated damages
– ₦25 million for legal expenses
– Immediate deletion of the alleged defamatory posts
– A public apology from VDM
– Retractions published in four national newspapers for 14 days
The timing of this lawsuit has raised eyebrows, as it coincides with Chinwo’s ongoing financial dispute with EeZee Concept. Many are now questioning whether this is a justified defense of her reputation or an attempt to silence criticism. Will VDM back down, or will this battle expose deeper truths about the gospel music industry?
