Military Eliminates ‘High-Profile’ Terrorists, Arrests 1,191 in Q2 – DHQ
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces killed several “high-profile” terrorists and arrested 1,191 others across various operational theatres between April and June 2025.
Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this during a quarterly press briefing on Thursday in Abuja. He commended the efforts of troops under multiple operations, including Operation Hadin Kai, Operation Fagge Yamma, Operation Safe Haven, Operation UDO KA, and Operation Delta Safe, noting their outstanding performance during the second quarter.
Among the terrorists neutralized were notorious commanders such as Amir Abu Fatimah, Kinging Auta, Abdul Jamilu, Salisu, Mallam Jidda, Maiwada, Mai Dada, and Nwachi Eze, also known as Onowu.
“Just two days ago, bandit kingpin Yellow Danbokkolo succumbed to injuries sustained during an encounter with troops the previous week, where many of his lieutenants were also eliminated,” Kangye stated.
He further revealed that troops arrested several known gunrunners and kidnappers already on military watchlists. Those apprehended include Buhari Umar, Hassam Mohammed, Saleh Sani, Adamu Dan Mai, Idi Yusuf, Hassan Bello, Muhammed Isah, Shimu Adamu, Ismaila Hassan, Michael, and Shittu Muazu.
“Our troops killed several terrorist kingpins and their fighters, arrested over 1,191 individuals, and rescued 543 kidnapped victims during the quarter,” he said.
Kangye emphasized that the military has continued its sustained operations against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening national security and socio-economic stability.
He also noted a significant development: the mass surrender of Boko Haram and ISWAP/JAS fighters due to sustained military pressure. “Approximately 682 terrorists and their family members surrendered to troops within the period,” he added.
On anti-oil theft operations, Kangye reported that troops under Operation Delta Safe thwarted illegal activities valued at over ₦3.5 billion. Recovered materials included 2.38 million litres of stolen crude oil, 605,393 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), 41,465 litres of Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK), and 26,905 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
He concluded by reaffirming the military’s commitment to professionalism, adherence to internal security codes of conduct, and rules of engagement.
“We appreciate the tireless efforts of our field commanders and their personnel. The Armed Forces remain committed to bringing all forms of security threats to an end. We also thank the media for their continued support in informing Nigerians of the efforts and sacrifices of our troops,” Kangye said.
