MNJTF TROOPS CRUSH KOULFOUA ATTACK, KILL TOP TERRORIST

Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force have repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists on Koulfoua Island in the Lake Chad region.

According to a statement from the MNJTF, the attempted invasion occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, when insurgents launched an assault on a military base stationed on the island.

Chief Military Public Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, said troops under Sector 2 of the force responded swiftly with superior firepower, successfully thwarting the attack.

He confirmed that a top Boko Haram commander, identified as Amir Dumkei, was killed along with five other fighters during the confrontation. Troops also recovered a cache of weapons, including nine AK-47 rifles, three boats, and a large quantity of ammunition.

Osoba added that clearance operations are ongoing in the area to pursue fleeing terrorists and prevent any regrouping.

The MNJTF, made up of forces from Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon, has intensified its counterinsurgency campaign in the Lake Chad Basin, a region that has long faced the threat of extremist violence.
