A heated debate has erupted after activist Adetoun confronted a woman for allowing her 11-year-old daughter to help sweep an estate as early as 4:30 AM.
In a video that has since gone viral, Adetoun is seen accosting the mother, who was employed by the estate management for cleaning duties, and berating her for bringing her child to work on a public holiday. Labeling the act as “child labor,” Adetoun sternly warned the woman never to involve her daughter again, even threatening that authorities could take the child away if she was caught sweeping in the estate in the future.
“You don’t bring an 11-year-old girl as early as 4:30-5:00 AM for child labor. I am not going to listen to your predicament. Don’t ever bring this girl out,” Adetoun stated firmly.
The video has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians. Some applauded Adetoun for standing up against child labor and advocating for the girl’s well-being. However, others accused her of being condescending and humiliating a struggling mother in front of her child, arguing that the situation required compassion rather than public shaming.
As the controversy rages on, the incident has reignited discussions on child labor, poverty, and the right approach to addressing societal issues.
