Mrs. Oromoni, the mother of Sylvester Oromoni Jr.—the Dowen College student who died under controversial circumstances in 2021—passed away in November 2024, nearly three years after her son’s death.
According to reports, she had battled depression and high blood pressure following the loss of her son and the prolonged legal struggle that ensued.
Sylvester’s death in November 2021 drew nationwide attention after his family alleged he was bullied, beaten, and forced to ingest a toxic substance by senior students at Dowen College in Lagos. The school, however, denied the accusations, claiming Sylvester sustained injuries while playing football.
The case dragged on for years, with conflicting autopsy reports. An early examination pointed to chemical poisoning, while a Lagos coroner later concluded that Sylvester died of natural causes resulting from sepsis. Ultimately, the accused students were cleared, and no one was held accountable.

In protest of the outcome, the Oromoni family refused to bury Sylvester for more than two years. He was finally laid to rest in Warri in January 2024.
Just months after the burial, Mrs. Oromoni passed away. Her funeral plans have since been announced, marking yet another painful chapter for the family still seeking justice and closure.
