Mr. Fanimo Exposes the Real Motive Behind Nigeria’s Political Defections

Abuja — Political analyst and commentator, Mr. Fanimo, has stated that while no democracy in the world is perfect, Nigeria’s political system has been weakened by the frequency of defections driven by personal interest rather than ideology or public service.

Speaking during a live discussion, Mr. Fanimo emphasized that political defection — the act of switching party allegiance — has become a tool for personal gain rather than a reflection of policy disagreement or democratic evolution.

“There’s no perfect democracy anywhere, but in Nigeria, defections often expose selfish ambitions,” he said. “Many politicians move from one party to another not because of principle, but because of what they stand to benefit.”

He urged political leaders to prioritize national interest and democratic values over personal advantage, warning that unchecked defections erode public trust and weaken the foundations of governance.
