

Several passengers have been hurt after a LAGFERRY boat caught fire unexpectedly at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu on Thursday morning.
The incident happened at 6:00 a.m. as commuters faced severe congestion from the shutdown of Independence Bridge, Ahmadu Bello Way, Marina. No fatalities have been reported so far, and the cause of the fire is still unknown.
Emergency personnel swiftly arrived at the scene following a fire outbreak and successfully evacuating all passengers and crew.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) confirmed the incident in an official statement through its Public Affairs Unit, identifying the affected LAGFERRY vessel as the Igbega Eko, which was heading to Victoria Island at the time.
“Upon receiving the distress call, LASWA’s emergency response team swiftly mobilized to the scene, working closely with LAGFERRY, boat operators, and other first responders to manage the situation effectively.” The statement stated.
According to the statement, LASWA verified that all individuals onboard were safely evacuated, with four passengers suffering minor injuries and now being treated. The authority emphasized that a comprehensive joint investigation with LAGFERRY and relevant parties has been initiated to establish the fire’s origin.
“Safety is our utmost priority, and we are committed to implementing any necessary recommendations to enhance fire prevention measures throughout the Lagos waterways.
