Mystery in Kano: Security Commissioner Resigns Abruptly, Governor Accepts Without Explanation

In a surprising twist, the Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Major General Muhammad Idris (retd.), has abruptly resigned from his position, raising eyebrows over the real reasons behind his departure.

Governor Abba Yusuf, in a carefully worded statement released by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, confirmed the resignation, expressing gratitude for Idris’ “short but impactful” tenure. However, the statement offered no explanation for the commissioner’s sudden exit, fueling speculation about possible internal conflicts or undisclosed controversies within the state’s security apparatus.

The timing of the resignation is particularly notable, coming amidst growing concerns over security in Kano, with rival emirate factions preparing for a potentially volatile Sallah Durbar. Some political insiders are questioning whether Idris’ resignation is linked to mounting security tensions or undisclosed disagreements with the governor’s administration.

While Yusuf praised the retired general for his “unwavering commitment” to Kano and wished him a peaceful retirement, many are left wondering: Was this truly a voluntary exit, or was there pressure behind the scenes?
