The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has arrested a 29-year-old man in possession of 7,000 capsules of Tramadol.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Kano.
He said the suspect was arrested on Saturday by operatives of the Kiru Area Command along the Zaria–Kano Road, Kwanar Dangora axis, while transporting the drugs from Lagos.
According to him, the 7,000 capsules, weighing 4.1 kilogrammes, were concealed in a 20-litre oil jerrycan. He described the arrest as a major breakthrough in the agency’s fight against substance abuse in the state.
“The professionalism and expertise of our operatives in detecting the concealed drugs underscores NDLEA’s commitment to disrupting the supply chain of illicit substances and ensuring community safety,” Muhammad-Maigatari said.
He added that the state Commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, commended the operatives for their diligence and also praised the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, for his continued support and guidance.
Idris-Ahmad reaffirmed the command’s determination to rid Kano State of illicit substances and urged the public to continue supporting NDLEA’s operations.
