NEWS | DELTA POLICE CRUSH CRIME SYNDICATES, ARREST 106 SUSPECTS AND RESCUE 13 KIDNAP VICTIMS

Delta State Police Command Records Major Breakthroughs in Crime-Fighting Efforts in Early 2025

In a significant development in the fight against crime, the Delta State Police Command has reported the arrest of 106 suspects and the successful rescue of 13 kidnapped victims during the first quarter of 2025. The commendable achievement was announced by the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, during a recent press briefing held at the Command Headquarters.

CP Olufemi revealed that the arrests were made in connection with a wide range of criminal activities, including armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, cult-related violence, and sexual offences. According to him, these operations were made possible through intensified, intelligence-driven policing strategies, coordinated raids, and collaborative efforts with local communities and other security stakeholders.

Providing a breakdown of the arrests, the Commissioner disclosed that 35 individuals were apprehended in connection with various robbery incidents, 24 were taken into custody for their roles in kidnapping cases, while 21 suspects were linked to murder investigations. The remaining suspects were involved in other serious crimes such as cultism and sexual offences.

In addition to the arrests, the Delta State Police also recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition. Specifically, the Command seized a total of 53 firearms, over 5,600 rounds of live ammunition, and 14 stolen vehicles during various operations across the state. These recoveries are expected to significantly disrupt the capabilities of criminal syndicates operating in the region.

One of the most notable successes highlighted by CP Olufemi was the dismantling of a notorious kidnapping syndicate believed to have been responsible for multiple high-profile abductions in the state. The operation, which was the culmination of weeks of surveillance and coordinated efforts, not only led to the arrest of several key members of the gang but also resulted in the safe rescue of several victims held in captivity.

CP Olufemi emphasized the Command’s continued commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents in Delta State. He urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities, assuring them that the police would continue to intensify their efforts to make the state safer for all.
