The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has launched a scathing attack on Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, claiming he has yet to recover from his election loss.
In a post on his X page, Bwala ridiculed Obi’s recent remarks on Arise TV, describing his statements as lacking facts and coherence. According to Bwala, Obi’s attempt to criticize President Bola Tinubu’s administration was nothing more than “a tinkling cymbal or a sounding brass.”
The presidential aide further claimed that Nigeria “dodged a bullet” by not electing Obi, insinuating that the former Anambra governor’s political relevance is fading.
“But I can understand his confusion,” Bwala wrote. “As it stands today, he seems deserted in the banana republic of fantasy, wondering how he will convince his followers about his agreement to play second fiddle in the 2027 wild goose chase of the opposition.”
Obi, a vocal critic of Tinubu’s policies, had earlier claimed he would have handled Nigeria’s economic crisis better if elected. However, the presidency’s latest remarks suggest the ruling government sees him as politically irrelevant.
With the 2027 election cycle already taking shape, the battle for opposition leadership appears to be intensifying—leaving many wondering if Obi can still command the same support he did in 2023 or if he is, as Bwala suggests, a fading force in Nigerian politics.
