Nigeria, US, Others to Boost Security in Gulf of Guinea

In a statement on Tuesday, the organizers of the event said that part of the things to be discussed include, port development, transportation, law and arbitration, training and education as well as environment and women in maritime.

The statement also said that the programme would give stakeholders and experts the opportunity to address maritime challenges in Africa.

According to the conveners, the conference will have in attendance, the Minister of Marine and the Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Executive Secretary of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, José Abeso and the immediate past Executive Secretary of the Gulf of Guinea Commission based in Angola, Adenike Ukonga.

The convener of the programme, Oritsematosan Edodo-Emore, said after 50 years of its legislative existence it was essential to see how Nigeria and Africa have followed through with this global commitment to keeping the marine environment clean and safe from pollution from ships.

He also said other issues to address include disposal of wastewater and its effects on the logistics value chain, insurance of oil tankers, and risk management strategies for preventing pollution and tax responsibilities of international shipping companies.
