Indian authorities have arrested a 28-year-old Nigerian man, Ekwunife Nwagbo, in connection with a massive heroin bust valued at over ₦214.5 billion (₹214 crore). The arrest followed the seizure of 30.66 kilograms of heroin in Gujarat’s Rajkot district.

Investigators say the drugs were smuggled into India via a “dead drop” off the Gujarat coast, allegedly orchestrated by a Pakistani handler. Nwagbo, who had been living under a fake identity in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar since 2022, was tracked down through intelligence sharing between Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorism Squad and the Narcotics Control Bureau.

Authorities found digital evidence linking him to the trafficking network, which is believed to be part of a larger international drug syndicate involving operatives from Pakistan and Nigeria.

This comes amid a broader crackdown on foreign-linked drug rings in India, with several Nigerians recently arrested in similar high-profile operations.
