A fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the lives of nine people, with three others sustaining injuries. The crash occurred early Monday morning near Ayetoro, Ogun State.
The Ogun State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Public Education Officer, Chief Route Commander Florence Okpe.
According to the statement, the crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus (registration number UYY165ZY) and a truck (registration number DKA244XC). Thirteen people were in the vehicles—ten men and three women. Nine passengers (six men and three women) lost their lives, while three others were injured.
The FRSC identified excessive speed and driver fatigue as likely causes of the crash. The bus driver reportedly lost control and rammed into a stationary truck.
Emergency responders transported the injured victims to Famobis Hospital in Mowe, while the deceased were taken to the Idera morgue in Sagamu.
Ogun Sector Commander expressed deep concern over reckless driving and the failure of some drivers to adhere to speed limits and mandatory rest breaks. He extended condolences to the families of the victims and advised them to contact the Mowe Unit Command for further details.
