Fuel panic buying has gripped Abuja following the shutdown of NNPC, NUPRC, and NMDPRA offices after the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) declared a nationwide strike.
The union is protesting the alleged wrongful dismissal of over 800 workers at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. With operations at the three key government oil agencies halted, fuel supply disruptions have quickly spread across the capital.
Motorists in areas like Airport Road and Kubwa have rushed to filling stations, creating long queues, while some stations have already started hoarding fuel in anticipation of scarcity.
Marketers are warning of possible pump price hikes if the strike lingers. PENGASSAN has also threatened to cut crude and gas supply to the Dangote refinery and other facilities, raising concerns about potential power supply disruptions and broader economic impact.
