No Crisis or Factions in Anambra PDP – Publicity Secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports of divisions or confusion within its Anambra State chapter.

Dr. Obumneme Nnoli, the party’s Publicity Secretary in Anambra, made this clarification in a statement released in Awka on Thursday.

The statement, titled “Re: Falsehood On The Leadership Of PDP In Anambra State,” was issued in response to claims that the Anambra PDP lacked a validly constituted State Executive Committee (SEC).

According to reports, a group alleged that an Abuja High Court nullified the PDP’s Anambra congress held on October 23, 2024, which elected the Chidi Chidebe-led SEC, and thus claimed there was no lawful leadership in the state chapter.

However, Dr. Nnoli insisted that the 37-member SEC elected at the October congress remains the only legitimate leadership of the party in Anambra and noted that the election has not been legally challenged in any court.

He highlighted that the congress was the first in many years to be conducted without factional disputes, with all legitimate delegates present, and described the SEC as a product of strict constitutional adherence and administrative transparency.

Nnoli also praised the party’s acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagun, for overseeing what he called the most transparent and credible PDP state congress in Anambra’s history.

“The National Working Committee has consistently recognised the Anambra SEC under Comrade Chidi Chidebe since its inauguration in November 2024,” he said.

He added that the SEC has operated under the guidance of the national leadership and in compliance with the PDP constitution, while institutions like the Independent National Electoral Commission continue to correspond with the Chidebe-led executive on party matters in Anambra.

Nnoli described the claims of no valid SEC leadership as “mischievous, misleading,” and an attempt to take over the party machinery through unfounded court judgments.

He challenged those spreading these allegations to produce the supposed court ruling, pointing out that no individual can be bound by a judgment in which they were not named or joined as a party.

“These individuals, known for their history of sabotage against PDP in Anambra, continue to spread falsehoods and fake court judgments to discredit the duly elected leadership,” he said.

He recalled that in January 2025, a similarly misleading court order was reviewed and dismissed by the National Working Committee, which reaffirmed its confidence in the Chidebe-led SEC.

Nnoli questioned why, if the claims were genuine, those spreading them would resort to social media propaganda rather than legal channels, suggesting that their actions are driven by personal ambition rather than party interest.

He lamented that some members prefer division over unity, particularly as the state prepares for important elections.

In conclusion, Dr. Nnoli urged PDP members across Anambra’s 326 wards to stay united, support the party leadership, and resist attempts to sow discord.
