A group of non-serving Senators from the Second to Fourth Republic sessions of the National Assembly has supported the proposed zoning of the Senate President position to the South-South and Deputy Senate President slot to the North West.
The non-serving senators, who made this known after a meeting in Abuja, specifically endorsed Senator Godswill Akpabio for Senate President and Senator Barau Jibrin as Deputy Senate President.
The Convener of the group, Senator Basheer Lado, who addressed the press at the end of the meeting, said their resolution was based on the need for fairness, equity and justice.
Lado noted that the National Assembly required experienced and level-headed leaders as presiding officers to calm down the current tension in the country
