Notorious Suspect Nabbed for Murder of Anambra Lawmaker Azuka Justice

Awka – The Anambra State Police Command has announced the arrest of a notorious 26-year-old armed robbery suspect, Ugochukwu Uzor, who is alleged to have been involved in the abduction and killing of Hon. Azuka Justice, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, that Uzor was apprehended during a major offensive operation conducted by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, in Ogbaru Local Government Area on December 8, 2025.

According to the statement, Uzor was arrested at Iyowa Odekpe following a fierce confrontation with police operatives, during which he sustained serious injuries. A locally made Beretta pistol and 11 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him at the scene.

Describing Uzor as a “dangerous criminal with a long history of violent offenses,” SP Ikenga noted that the suspect bore a large tattoo reading “No Forgiveness” and “No Mercy,” reflecting his hardened criminal mindset.

During interrogation, Uzor reportedly confessed to leading several criminal gangs operating across Anambra and neighbouring states. He also admitted to orchestrating the abduction and murder of Hon. Azuka Justice on December 24, 2024.

Hon. Azuka, representing Onitsha 1 North Constituency, had regained his mandate after a court ruling overturned the initial 2023 election result. He was kidnapped at gunpoint while returning home along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Onitsha, and his decomposing body was later found at the 2nd Niger Bridge in February 2025. The killing was widely condemned as a brutal attack on democracy and the rule of law.

SP Ikenga stated that Uzor’s arrest represents a major breakthrough in efforts to dismantle organized criminal syndicates operating within Anambra State. He urged residents to remain vigilant and assist law enforcement with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and investigation.
