The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has lifted the suspension on Plateau United goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka, allowing him to register with any club of his choice ahead of the 2025/26 season, pending the outcome of an ongoing probe into betting allegations.
The league announced the decision in a statement signed by its Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, on Thursday in Abuja.
Adeyinka, one of the NPFL’s most experienced shot-stoppers, was provisionally suspended in July following allegations of involvement in betting activities. The league explained that the decision to lift the ban was influenced by Adeyinka’s full cooperation with the NPFL Integrity Unit during its inquest.
“We compliment you for honouring the invitation to attend the NPFL inquest on alleged betting involvement and thank you for your cooperation,” the statement read.
While clearing Adeyinka to resume his career, the NPFL stressed that broader investigations remain ongoing and other individuals linked to the case would be invited for questioning.
“For the benefit of fair hearing and not to put your career in jeopardy, the suspension placed on your registration in the NPFL has been lifted. You are free to register for any club of your choice,” the statement added.
The league body reaffirmed its commitment to upholding integrity and transparency in Nigerian football, pledging to pursue the matter to its conclusion without compromising fairness.
