NSC Boss Defends Sports Kits After Amusan’s Criticism

The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) has responded to criticism from world champion hurdler Tobi Amusan over the quality of kits provided to Nigerian athletes, insisting that the uniforms are not inferior.

Amusan had earlier voiced her frustration, claiming that the sports kits given to Team Nigeria at recent competitions did not match international standards and affected athletes’ performance and morale. Her comments quickly drew attention from fans, athletes, and sports analysts, many of whom called for urgent reforms.

In his response, the NSC boss maintained that the commission procured high-quality kits from recognized suppliers and followed due process. He added that while no system is perfect, efforts are being made to continuously improve athletes’ welfare and sporting conditions.

Sports experts say the back-and-forth highlights a bigger issue: the gap between athletes’ expectations and what the sports authorities are delivering. For everyday Nigerians, the debate raises questions about accountability and whether the country is truly investing in its sports talents.

In simple terms, Amusan is saying, “We deserve better kits to compete globally,” while the NSC insists, “The kits are fine.” The challenge is to bridge that gap so athletes feel fully supported on the world stage.
