NUJ Anambra State Chapter Elections: Odogwu Returns to Lead/Vop

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Chapter, has concluded its elections with Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Ph.D., re-elected as Chairman. Odogwu secured 173 votes, defeating his rival, Comrade Mrs. Ngozi Obileri, who garnered 40 votes in the closely contested election.

In other election results, Chibuzo Obidike won the Treasurer’s position with 168 votes, surpassing the former treasurer, Ogemdi Ozoemenam, who received 45 votes. The Financial Secretary position was uncontested, with Comrade Grace Onwukwe taking the role.

Comrade Betty was elected as Vice Chairman, while Comrade Okey Onuegbu secured the Secretary position, to be supported by Comrade Chinyere Ogbuagu.

The new executive council was sworn in following due process, with a judicial officer overseeing the ceremony to ensure compliance with regulations.

Hon. Afam Ogene, Member of the Federal House of Representatives for Ogbaru Constituency, spoke during the vote of thanks, emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation among NUJ members. Hon. Carmel Chuks, former media director to the late Ifeanyi Uba and current media director for Anambra South senatorial aspirant Ebuka Onunkwo, commended the smooth conduct of the elections. Chuks also announced Onunkwo’s pledge to support the union with a new sound-generating set.

Dr. Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, congratulated the newly elected officials on behalf of the state government, expressing readiness to collaborate with the union to achieve its objectives.

With the election results now confirmed, optimism runs high for the Anambra NUJ under the leadership of Comrade Odogwu, with hopes for progress and unity within the union.
