Sen. Ned Nwoko (APC–Delta North) has urged Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori to prioritise the completion of three critical infrastructure projects in the senatorial district.
Nwoko, in a statement from his media directorate on Wednesday in Abuja, said the projects include the Ogwashi-Uku Dam, the Okpai Independent Power Plant step-down facility, and the rehabilitation of the Onicha-Ugbo–Idumuje-Ugboko Road.
The senator, who met with the governor on Tuesday, said the projects were central to the aspirations of Delta North residents, describing them as lifelines for water supply, electricity, agriculture, and connectivity.
While commending Oborevwori’s achievements in infrastructure and human capital development, Nwoko said the Ogwashi-Uku Dam required urgent government intervention to deliver its intended benefits.
He noted that the facility, now under the Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority, needed a water treatment plant, a reticulation network to reach 66 communities, and an irrigation system for all-year farming.
On electricity, the lawmaker lamented that despite hosting one of Nigeria’s largest power plants, Okpai communities were yet to feel the impact due to the absence of a 100-megawatt step-down.
He disclosed that although his motion on the project had gained Senate approval and support from the Ministers of Power and Petroleum Resources, funding remained a challenge.
“What we need is the state government’s intervention—either through direct funding or by facilitating credible contractors and investors who can finance the project and recover costs through billing. Without this step-down, Delta is sitting next to power but living in darkness,” he said.
Nwoko also described the Onicha-Ugbo–Idumuje-Ugboko Road as a vital economic link, stressing that its rehabilitation was essential for trade and mobility across communities.
He pledged to collaborate with the state government to attract funding and ensure the projects are delivered, noting that “water, power, and road infrastructure remain the most pressing needs of my constituents.”
