NYSC Commends Corps Members for Patriotism and Discipline/Vop

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has praised corps members across the country for their patriotism, discipline, and perseverance during their service year.

Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the NYSC Director-General, gave the commendation on Tuesday at the Wailo NYSC Orientation Camp in Bauchi State during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II orientation course. Represented by the Bauchi State Coordinator, Rifkatu Yakubu, he acknowledged the patience and maturity displayed by the corps members throughout the three-week program.

Ahmed expressed confidence that they would make meaningful contributions to their host communities.

“As you move into the second phase of your service year, I urge you to remain obedient, loyal, and diligent. Quickly adapt to your places of primary assignment, respect local customs, and work towards leaving your host communities better than you found them,” he advised.

He also appreciated the Bauchi State Government for its continuous support of the NYSC scheme and encouraged corps members to give back positively to their host communities.

Meanwhile, in Anambra State, disciplinary measures have been taken against some corps members. Sixteen corps members have been directed to repeat their service year due to various infractions, while three others will serve an extension of two to four months.

The NYSC Coordinator in Anambra, Mr. Ebenezer Olawale, revealed this in Awka, noting that no formal passing-out ceremony was held. Instead, discharge certificates were issued at NYSC local government offices.

Out of the 2,158 corps members who successfully completed their service in the state, seven received the Governor’s Award, while four were honored with the Chairman’s Award.

Regarding the upcoming Anambra governorship election, Olawale assured that there were enough corps members to handle NYSC’s responsibilities during the process. He added that additional support from neighboring states would address any manpower gaps.

Additionally, the NYSC Director-General is scheduled to visit Anambra on November 7 to address corps members participating in the election, emphasizing the need for neutrality in their duties.
