Obidient Movement condemns killing of Arise TV journalist

The Obidient Movement (OM) has condemned the killing of 29-year-old Arise TV news anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who was reportedly murdered by suspected armed robbers in her home on Monday.

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday by its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, and the Director of Strategic Communications and Media, Nana Kazaure, the group described the incident as “tragic” and reflective of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

“The tragic event underscores the gross insecurity and brutal violence plaguing our nation, which has claimed far too many innocent lives. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and colleagues during this unimaginable time,” the statement read.

The movement urged authorities to launch a thorough investigation into Maduagwu’s death and ensure the perpetrators face the full weight of the law. It also called on the government to prioritize the safety of all citizens, particularly journalists and media professionals who risk their lives to inform the public.

OM further demanded stronger security measures to curb violent crimes, kidnappings, and armed robberies, which it said have devastated communities across the country.

“In honouring the memory of fallen Nigerians, we reaffirm our commitment to truth, justice, and human rights. As a movement focused on national unity and good governance, we will continue to advocate for a safer, more just, and equitable society for all Nigerians,” the group stated.

The statement concluded with a message of solidarity to Maduagwu’s loved ones and the journalism community, reiterating its call for justice and accountability.
