Obi’s Wife Empowers Women with 30 Million Naira/Vop

In a heartwarming gesture aimed at uplifting the lives of women in Agulu, Anaocha LGA, Anambra State, Mrs. Margaret Obi, wife of the former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, distributed a total of N30 million to 300 women in the community. Each beneficiary, selected from the 20 villages in Agulu, received N100,000.

During the cheque distribution, Mrs. Obi expressed her hope that the funds would be used by those most in need and described the initiative as her personal way of showing solidarity with the people during a time of national hardship marked by severe poverty. She encouraged the women to invest the money in their petty trades, stressing that with dedication and faith, they could overcome difficult circumstances.

Barr. Emily Enemuoh, Chairperson of Udoka Micro Finance Bank, who attended the event alongside Barr. Olive Obi, commended the women and advised them to use the funds responsibly and run their businesses with integrity, assuring them that better days would come.

Mr. Oliver Afamefuna, the President-General of Agulu, praised the Obis for their unwavering commitment to the community. He noted that, despite their national and international recognition, they had always remained devoted to Agulu, especially during challenging times. Chief Paulinus Anagboso, Onowu of Agulu, also recalled the significant empowerment programs initiated by Mr. Obi for the town, such as the provision of vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles.

Mrs. Margaret Ejike, the Women’s Leader, thanked Mrs. Obi and her husband for their ongoing support and urged the women to make the most of the opportunity.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Ann Agwubike from Obe Village, expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating that the financial support had come at a critical time. “After depleting our trading capital during the Christmas season, this timely gesture will save many businesses from collapsing,” she said.

The Obis continue to demonstrate their commitment to the well-being of Agulu’s residents through various private initiatives over the years, including scholarships for indigent students.
