Ogbomoso Youths Protest Poor Road Conditions, Demand Government Action

Youths and students in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, took to the streets on Saturday to protest the deplorable condition of the Ogbomoso Road, attributing frequent accidents and tragic loss of lives to the road’s dilapidated state. The demonstrators, under the National Association of University Students (NAUS) and Ogbomoso Indigenous Associations, issued a 30-day ultimatum to the Federal and Oyo State governments, demanding urgent repairs.

Protesters expressed frustration over the deaths caused by accidents on the road, which they described as preventable tragedies resulting from government negligence. Comrade Tiamiyu Olayinka, NAUS Vice President, said, “These are not accidents but murders caused by neglect.”

The protest highlighted the critical importance of the Ogbomoso Road, a key route between the North and Southwest. Despite its strategic significance, the road has been left in disrepair, forcing motorists to take dangerous alternative routes. Olayinka stressed that students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) and residents are particularly vulnerable, with lives put at risk daily.

The protesters warned of mass demonstrations and economic shutdowns if the government fails to act within the 30-day deadline.
