Some All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirants in Ondo State have passed a vote of no confidence on the primary election being superintended by Gov. Usman Ododo of Kogi State.
The APC primary election in the 203 wards in the state is to elect the party’s flag bearer for the November 16 governorship election.
Addressing newsmen on Saturday in Akure as the election was ongoing, the aspirants said Ododo did not follow the due process laid down by the national leadership of the party.
Mr Gbenga Edema, one of the aspirants, frowned at the delay in the release of electoral materials meant for the primary.
According to Edema, as of 10:00 am, electoral materials had not been released contrary to the resolution made during a stakeholders’ meeting on Friday.
Similarly, Mr Paul Oniyemofe, who represented Prof. Dayo Faduyile, another aspirant, described the election as a daylight robbery and asked for a rescheduled primary.
In a swift reaction, Ododo said electoral materials had been distributed to Ondo North and Ondo South Senatorial Districts.
He added that materials had also been delivered at Ondo Central District, promising that all grievances would be looked into.
Violence reportedly erupted on Saturday at Ward 1 of Stella Maris College, Okitipupa, as rival supporters of two All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants clashed over the party’s candidate selection for the November 16 Ondo State Governorship election.
Naija News learnt that party members who had gathered early in significant numbers to participate in the candidate selection process fled the scene when the altercation between the rival supporters ensued.
Reports indicate that the accreditation and voting procedures had not commenced before the outbreak of violence, causing voters to run for safety.
