Ondo’s Power Woes: Private Firm Steps In as Government Fails to Deliver Stable Electricity

In a glaring indictment of the government’s failure to provide stable electricity, private energy firm Lincs Power Energy Solutions has taken matters into its own hands, donating a 5-megawatt power project to Ondo town.

The project, facilitated by former aide to the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Olumbe Akinkugbe, is expected to expand to 20MW, potentially supplying reliable electricity to the entire Ondo State—something the government has struggled to achieve for decades.

At the groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday, Project Manager Otinniyi Micheal emphasized that the power capacity would be expanded in the future to cover more areas. While he praised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his support, many residents question why a private entity is stepping in to provide basic infrastructure that the state government has long neglected.

Akinkugbe highlighted that the project would drive economic growth and improve residents’ quality of life—an admission that the government’s electricity supply has been inadequate.

Despite Aiyedatiwa’s representative expressing gratitude, critics argue that this private-sector intervention exposes the state’s long-standing failure to provide consistent power, raising questions about where public funds for energy projects have gone.

As Ondo State relies on corporate goodwill for electricity, many residents are left wondering: Is the government incapable of delivering basic services, or is this just another case of misplaced priorities?
