The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in a one-chance robbery and fraud syndicate operating in Ibadan.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, in Ibadan.
Osifeso said the arrests followed intelligence-led operations initiated after a viral video exposed the gang’s criminal activities. Acting on the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, tactical operatives launched a manhunt, which led to the successful dismantling of the gang.
“Following the emergence of the video, the Commissioner of Police tasked our tactical teams to apprehend the suspects involved,” Osifeso stated.
The operation yielded results on Saturday when the police tracked down and arrested two male suspects, aged 42 and 45, on the Old Ibadan–Oyo Road at approximately 3:30 p.m. The suspects are residents of Olomoyeye Muslim Area and Beyerunka Area in Ibadan.
A Nissan Almera vehicle, with registration number Lagos FST 779 DL, allegedly used by the suspects during their criminal operations, was recovered by the police.
Osifeso confirmed that the suspects confessed to using the vehicle to defraud and rob multiple victims. So far, three victims have identified the suspects as those who robbed them on different occasions.
Investigation is ongoing to locate other members of the syndicate and recover any weapons they may have used.
The police also urged other victims who may have been targeted by the suspects to come forward and assist with the investigation and eventual prosecution.
