Nigeria will be without star striker Victor Osimhen when they face South Africa in Tuesday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier.
Osimhen picked up an injury during the Super Eagles’ victory over Rwanda and was forced off in the first half. Team officials later confirmed he had sustained a bruise and would not travel with the squad to Bloemfontein.
The 26-year-old forward is expected to return to his club, Galatasaray, for further treatment. Reports differ on the exact nature of the injury, with some citing a shin bruise and others a chin bruise, but both confirm his unavailability.
Head coach Éric Chelle had earlier expressed hope that Osimhen might recover in time, but medical assessments ruled him out.
His absence is a major setback for Nigeria, who are pushing to strengthen their qualification chances in Group C.
