Osun Boils: APC Alleges Adeleke Plotting ‘Judicial Coup’ to Reclaim LG Councils for PDP

 

Tensions are escalating in Osun State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sensationally accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of orchestrating a “judicial coup” to illegally reinstate local government chairmen elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

Speaking in Osogbo on Sunday, former Osun Commissioner for Information, Sunday Akere, flanked by top APC figures, alleged that the Adeleke-led government is conspiring to secure a court-ordered mandamus on April 17 from an Osun High Court in Ikirun, which would be used as a backdoor to force PDP chairmen into council secretariats currently controlled by APC officials.

 

Akere warned that the planned use of Amotekun operatives and political thugs to forcefully reoccupy the secretariats could plunge the state into fresh chaos. This is nothing short of a judicial ambush designed to illegally install PDP loyalists into power through the backdoor,” he stated, vowing the APC would “resist any illegal takeover attempt.”

 

The former commissioner said the party had already alerted the National Judicial Council to what he called “abuse of the judiciary” and was prepared to take further legal action.

 

In a swift rebuttal, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, fired back, dismissing the APC’s allegations as “baseless blackmail” and accusing the opposition party of illegal occupation of the councils in defiance of multiple court rulings.

 

Rasheed revealed that the APC is currently facing three lawsuits — including one by the All Peoples Party — for contempt of court after allegedly ignoring a judgement that nullified their October 2022 council elections.

 

He said Adeleke had no hand in initiating any court proceedings and had merely directed the PDP-elected chairmen to obey the law. Rasheed accused the APC of whipping up hysteria to distract from their impending legal downfall.

 

“The APC’s fantasy about violent takeovers is a cover-up for their unconstitutional stay in office. Let them face their legal reckoning instead of dragging the governor into their mess,” he said.

 

As the April 17 court date looms, Osun braces for a legal and political showdown that could further deepen the crisis in its grassroots governance.
