The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it arrested no fewer than 225 suspects for drug-related offenses in Osun State between January and July 2025.
According to state commander, Mr. Oluwarotimi Adetula, who disclosed the figures on Monday in Osogbo, the suspects include 174 males and 51 females.
He noted that during the period under review, 43 of the suspectsโ40 men and three womenโwere charged to court, with the agency securing 22 convictions.
Adetula said the agency seized a total of 654.424 kilograms of illicit drugs. The breakdown includes:
-
502.932kg of Cannabis Sativa
-
3.4kg of Cocaine
-
62.692kg of Psychotropic substances
-
85.4kg of Methamphetamine
Additionally, two cannabis farms were identified and destroyed during operations across the state.
In its preventive efforts, the NDLEA conducted 125 drug sensitisation and awareness campaigns, while 116 drug users received counseling and two individuals were fully rehabilitated.
Adetula emphasized that the agency’s work aligns with the National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP), which focuses on both drug supply and demand reduction strategies.
โSupply reduction targets those involved in the cultivation, production, and trafficking of illegal substances,โ he explained. โOn the demand side, we focus on drug education in schools and public spaces, advocacy visits, and treatment and rehabilitation of users.โ
He reaffirmed the NDLEAโs commitment to making Osun State hostile to drug traffickers and barons, while urging residents to support the fight against drug abuse.
The commander also appealed to youths across the state to avoid drug use in all its forms, stressing the long-term personal and societal dangers of substance abuse.
