Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has stated that the Osun Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill, recently passed by the State House of Assembly, will put an end to the exploitation of electricity consumers once signed into law.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo by his spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke said the era of oppression and unfair treatment by electricity distribution companies in the state is coming to an end.
Voice Of the People (VOP) reports that the Osun State House of Assembly passed the bill — titled “Osun State Electricity Market Regulatory Bill 2025” — during plenary on Monday after its third reading.
Describing the bill as a game-changer for Osun’s economic development, Adeleke said it would unlock investment opportunities in the power sector, especially in off-grid and renewable energy generation.
“This legislation will diversify and regulate sources of power generation to tackle the chronic electricity supply issues facing the state,” he said.
“With this law, Osun will achieve the right energy mix — combining renewable sources with traditional ones. Our state is now open to new investors in the energy sector.”
The governor added that the establishment of the Osun Electricity Regulatory Commission would provide a framework for monitoring the electricity market, resolving service delivery issues, and enforcing consumer protection.
“The distribution company must now prepare for the operational start of the commission,” Adeleke warned.
“This agency will address service failures, investigate complaints from electricity users, and grant licenses to power producers. Exploitation and poor treatment of consumers will no longer be tolerated.”
He further noted that the business community should welcome the development, as the state now has a robust policy and regulatory foundation for the power sector.
Governor Adeleke also commended the Osun State House of Assembly, the Ministry of Energy, and all stakeholders involved in drafting and reviewing the bill.
“This collaborative effort reflects our shared commitment to energy reform and economic advancement,” he said.
