The Osun State Government has assured residents and visitors of a seamless grand finale for the 2024 Osun-Osogbo Festival, scheduled for August 8.
Speaking with the Voice of the People (VOP) on Wednesday in Osogbo, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Abiodun Ojo, said the state government is collaborating closely with the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, to ensure a successful celebration.
“We are working hand-in-hand with the custodian of the festival, the Ataoja of Osogbo, to ensure that all activities leading to the grand finale run smoothly,” Ojo said.
He added that the government would provide both moral and financial support for the festival, and participate in major traditional activities, including the cultural dance and the symbolic lighting of the Atupa-Oloju Merindinlogun lamp.
In addition, Ojo revealed plans to host the Osun Mega Expo, a complementary event designed to enrich the festival experience. While distinct from the main Osun-Osogbo celebrations, the expo will coincide with the festival and incorporate several government-led cultural programmes.
“The expo will not only promote our cultural heritage but also provide an opportunity for more people to witness the Osun-Osogbo Festival in a vibrant and engaging atmosphere,” he added.
