The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally resigned from the party, saying no official communication has been received to that effect.
Addressing journalists after a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, said the party was aware of a widely circulated letter purportedly written by Adeleke but insisted that nothing has been officially submitted.
“We have seen online a letter said to be from him resigning from our party, but I tell you that we have not, up to this moment, received any formal indication that he has left,” Turaki stated.
He explained that despite the online speculation, Governor Adeleke’s name remains on the official list of aspirants for the PDP governorship primaries in Osun State. Turaki added that party officials managing the primary election would determine whether the governor is still participating or has formally withdrawn.
The chairman stressed that Adeleke, like every Nigerian, has the constitutional right to determine his political affiliation, but noted that the party remains unshaken by such developments.
“As far as we are concerned, even if the letter circulating online is genuine, Governor Adeleke, like any Nigerian, has the freedom to associate as he wishes,” he said.
Turaki added that the PDP has survived high-profile defections in the past and continues to enjoy strong grassroots support nationwide.
“Our people have remained with us, and by God’s grace, when elections come, they will show that the PDP is still solid,” he concluded.
SaharaReporters had on Tuesday reported that Governor Adeleke had resigned from the PDP, citing longstanding internal disputes within the party. The purported resignation letter, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2 in Ede North Local Government Area and dated November 4, 2025, quickly went viral, prompting public speculation about the governor’s next political move.
