ABUJA — The Board of Trustees (BoT) of Nyesom Wike’s faction in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unveiled a major restructuring initiative aimed at reorganising troubled state chapters and laying the groundwork for fresh congresses and a national convention.
Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, chairman of the factional BoT, disclosed the plan at the opening session of the board’s meeting held at the Life Camp residence of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja on Monday. He said the group is committed to rebuilding the PDP from within and restoring public confidence in the party’s internal processes.
Ohuabunwa highlighted that the faction is already taking steps to stabilise affected states, including the formation of credible caretaker committees, which he described as essential to ensuring transparent congresses and a smooth convention process.
“These reforms are necessary to build trust, strengthen internal structures, and maintain our party as a model of fairness and inclusiveness in Nigeria’s democratic space,” he said.
Declaring full support for the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee (NWC), Ohuabunwa added: “We will work with this NWC, encourage them, and ensure that decisions are made in accordance with the law and the guidance of our great party.”

He described the BoT as the “conscience and moral compass of the party,” emphasizing its responsibility to provide stability, enforce legality, and safeguard the party’s core values.
“In this defining moment, we must rise above sentiments and act with unity to ensure that the PDP emerges stronger, more cohesive, and fully prepared for future leadership responsibilities,” Ohuabunwa stated.
The BoT meeting was attended by prominent party figures, including factional National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, and former deputy governors such as Dr. Philip Salary of Kogi State, among others.
