PDP Postpones NEC Meeting to Focus on Ondo Governorship Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, originally scheduled for October 24, 2024, to November 28, 2024. The decision, announced by the PDP Governors’ Forum under the leadership of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, is aimed at allowing the party to focus on strategizing for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election on November 16, 2024.

The party emphasized the importance of unity in facing internal and external challenges as it prepares to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. In a communiqué released after an extended meeting held at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge, the PDP reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the party and urged members to avoid divisive rhetoric.

Governor Mohammed, who presided over the meeting, expressed support for the leadership of Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and addressed internal tensions, following a court case aimed at blocking the NEC meeting. The reconciliation efforts led by the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Committee have been crucial in resolving disputes within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), ensuring the party can move forward ahead of the governorship election and beyond.

The meeting was attended by five of the party’s 13 governors, including Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), and Caleb Muftwang (Plateau). Governor Mohammed called for continued unity, stressing that the PDP will offer Nigerians an alternative to the ruling APC and resist efforts to turn the country into a one-party state.
