Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Saturday, has officially received his membership card of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the party’s registration and mobilization exercise, the former Anambra State governor reiterated his resolve to contest the 2027 presidential election despite what he described as attempts to discourage him from the race.
“I will not be intimidated by the number of governors in the APC. Several attempts have been made to discourage me from the race, but I will not be deterred from contesting the 2027 presidential election,” Mr Obi said.
The ADC presidential candidate’s decision to formally obtain his membership card comes amid earlier speculation that he might return to the Labour Party, the platform under which he contested the 2023 presidential election.
His political move is being closely watched as political activities gradually begin to build up ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr Obi’s formal alignment with the ADC may signal a new phase in the party’s mobilisation efforts, particularly in the South-East region where he commands significant political support.
The development could also reshape political calculations among major parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as preparations for the next presidential contest gather momentum.
