The Association of Mobile Communication Device Technicians (AMCODET) has urged the government to install CCTV cameras in Computer Village, Lagos, to bolster security in the area.
AMCODET President, Mr. Kehinde Apara, highlighted the urgent need for improved security infrastructure, citing the area’s vulnerability to frequent security breaches.
Apara’s call comes in the wake of a recent explosion in Computer Village that left several people injured. According to him, the explosion occurred when a parcel containing an explosive device was opened in a shop within the market.
“In light of recent events, AMCODET has engaged other stakeholders on the need to improve security and has proposed the installation of solar-powered CCTV cameras at the market’s entrance,” Apara said.
He added, “We believe the government can play a key role in supporting this initiative to prevent a breakdown of law and order.”
Apara also stressed the importance of personal security measures, particularly for phone technicians involved in unlocking mobile devices. He noted that the association is implementing new protocols requiring customers to provide proof of ownership or a consent form before their devices can be unlocked.
“This is to protect our members, some of whom have unknowingly handled stolen or disputed phones,” he explained.
The AMCODET president called on security agencies and other stakeholders to support the association in training its members on best security practices.
