A small twin-engine plane crashed onto Interstate 95 near Orlando Monday evening, striking a car and scattering debris across one of Florida’s busiest highways, authorities reported.
The Beechcraft 55 went down while attempting an emergency landing following reported engine trouble. The aircraft clipped a Toyota Camry, driven by a 57-year-old woman, leaving the vehicle crushed against the median barrier. She was taken to Viera Hospital with minor injuries.
Remarkably, both the 27-year-old pilot and a 27-year-old passenger escaped the crash unscathed and declined medical attention.
The crash shut down multiple lanes of I-95 between Orlando and Cape Canaveral, causing significant traffic delays in both directions as crews cleared wreckage and debris. Officials noted that the cause of the emergency landing remains under investigation.
Photos from the scene showed the plane resting partly on the concrete median, with debris—including a detached wheel—scattered across the roadway.
The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the FAA will conduct a full investigation into what led to the highway landing.
Monday’s incident was the second aviation emergency in Central Florida that day. Earlier, a small plane made an unexpected landing on a road in DeLand near DeLand High School, injuring two people aboard.
