The Plateau State Government is constructing a 17.1-kilometer perimeter fence around the Jos Wildlife Park to safeguard the reserve from encroachment and enhance the protection of its wildlife.
This was disclosed by Mr. Peter Gwom, Commissioner for Environment, Climate Change, and Development, during a media briefing on Thursday in Jos. The briefing highlighted the activities and achievements of his ministry from May 2024 to date.
Gwom noted that the perimeter fencing project is 90 percent complete. He added that the park’s central administrative office is currently undergoing renovation.
In addition to the fencing, the ministry has built a perishable food store, a generator house, and three public toilets. It has also renovated and remodeled the park’s kitchen bar and chalets.
The commissioner further revealed that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the historic Plateau Club and the ongoing work on the 7.8-kilometer gully erosion site near Bingham University Teaching Hospital in Jos North Local Government Area are in progress, with completion expected by October.
To combat the effects of climate change, Gwom said the ministry has distributed 100,000 adaptable tree seedlings to farmers in selected local government areas across the state.
