The Niger State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper in Barkin-Sale, Gurara Local Government Area.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the arrest followed a direct complaint lodged at Kpakungu Division.
According to him, police operatives apprehended Mohammed Rabiu of Lambata, Gurara LGA, around 9 a.m. on August 2 in the Barkin-Sale area of Minna
.
Abiodun explained that Rabiu was linked to a 2023 incident in Dagwi Village, via Beji, where a group of kidnappers abducted a 10-year-old boy. The victim was released after a ransom of ₦300,000, a carton of energy drinks, packets of cigarettes, foodstuffs, and recharge cards was paid.
The arrest came after the victim’s father spotted and identified Rabiu in Barkin-Sale, raising an alarm that led to his capture.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the kidnapping and named other accomplices—identified as Mahmuda, Aminu, Ibrahim, Yellow, Muazu, and Lago. He also admitted involvement in the 2023 killing of a farmer in the area and revealed that victims were usually taken to Washa Forest via Beji.
