The Niger State Police Command has arrested five suspects over alleged involvement in armed robbery and terrorism-related activities in Minna.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the arrests were part of an intensified crackdown on thuggery and violent crimes in the Minna metropolis and surrounding areas.
According to Abiodun, an intelligence-led raid by operatives from ‘A’ Division on August 2 led to the arrest of an 18-year-old resident of Abdulsalam Quarters along Stadium Road. The suspect was found with a sharp iron rod used in stabbing and robbing victims.
He revealed that the suspect had been on the police wanted list for his alleged role in a culpable homicide case and was identified as one of the gang leaders working with notorious criminals, including Musa Kaura, Kaule, and Gaiye, who have been terrorising communities such as Angwan-Daji, Limawa, New Market, and Maitumbi.
The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna, where he is assisting with efforts to track down other gang members.
Abiodun added that in a separate operation on August 6, between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., the Command’s anti-thuggery unit raided the Barkin-Sale area, arresting four more suspects in possession of dangerous weapons, including three sharp knives, scissors, and suspected cannabis.
All suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of inquiries.
