The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected of involvement in a kidnapping ring operating in Eket Local Government Area.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, in Uyo.
“Following credible intelligence about a planned abduction targeting key individuals in Eket, a coordinated police operation led to the arrest of six suspected kidnappers,” John stated.
She explained that the operation began on Tuesday with the arrest of one Joseph Alafia in Oron Town. Subsequent raids on two locations in Eket resulted in the capture of additional suspects.
During the operation, the police recovered five mobile phones and a Lexus RX 300 SUV with license plate number KMR 491 AE, which is believed to have been used in the commission of kidnapping activities.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspects are believed to be linked to a series of recent abductions in the area and are currently undergoing intensive interrogation.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Baba Azare, commended the officers involved in the swift and effective operation. He reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all residents in Akwa Ibom.
